Teachers don’t just teach.
They run programs that don’t come with stipends.
They spend nights and weekends learning new curriculum with minimal training.
They donate supplies, clothes, food, and hygiene products.
They stay late, show up early, volunteer, mentor, listen, encourage, and care.
They ride buses with students who are struggling.
They wash clothes. Brush hair. Fill backpacks. Run food drives.
They do what needs to be done because kids need them.

And they do it while being told they’re “draining the system.”

The reality? Teaching in Rockford Public Schools is tough and teachers are not fairly compensated compared to nearby districts. Yet they continue to show up, work harder, adapt faster, and love deeper than most jobs ever require.

The facts matter:

• As of December 21, 2025, there are 73 open teaching positions in RPS 205
• 40% of REA members work at least 10 unpaid hours beyond contract time every week
• 50% of REA members spend over $300 of their own money each year on classroom supplies and student activities
• Between February 6 and December 31, 2025, RPS 205 spent $455,172.18 on outside legal counsel to fight educator negotiations

That amount alone could have fully funded para support educators for the next three years.

This isn’t about a lack of money.
It’s about priorities.

This shirt is a statement of solidarity for teachers, paras, and school staff who keep classrooms running, students supported, and communities moving forward.
